Every so often you come across a movie that causes you to hope, to dream, to love and to have those meaningful conversations with your family; The Water Man is one of those such movies that’s currently in theater.

Gunner (Lonnie Chavis) sets out on a quest to save his ill mother (Rosario Dawson) by searching for a mythic figure who possesses the secret to immortality, the Water Man. After enlisting the help of a mysterious local girl, Jo (Amiah Miller), they journey together into the remote Wild Horse forest — but the deeper they venture, the stranger and more dangerous the forest becomes. Their only hope for rescue is Gunner’s father (David Oyelowo), who will stop at nothing to find them.

With a star-studded cast picked out, David’s directorial debut was nothing short of brilliant; his ability to connect with his audience picking the perfect cast and alongside rising start young Lonnie Chavis was majestically put together, and to let’s not forgot having the backing, support, and executive producer Oprah Winfrey doesn’t hurt as well. If that’s not enough of a reason for you to go see this movie, I don’t know what is.

If it wasn’t already impressive that David acted, produced, and directed this film; his wife Jessica Oyelowo also had a role as well in the movie as the bookstore owner, while also writing a song for the ending credits, and accompanying piece called “What Love Does”.

We were able to speak with Jessica and David and when ask about the meaning of the song Jessica said; ‘it was meant to sum up what the film was truly about sacrificial love, and willing to go the distance for someone you love.”

Be sure to check your local listings, and go see this film with your entire family; after being home for an entire year it’s the perfect movie to get you back out.
