Tyscot Records – America’s oldest, operating gospel music label – has earned nine nominations for its various artists in the upcoming 37^th annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards – the biggest night of the year for the gospel music industry.

Louisville, Kentucky’s Jason Clayborn (best-known for writing songs such as Hezekiah Walker’s GRAMMY® Award nominated, Billboard No. 1 smash, “Better”) and The Atmosphere Changers earned four nominations for their debut album, God Made It Beautiful (JayClay Music / Tyscot). The project earned nods in the categories of Traditional Album of the Year, Praise & Worship Album of the Year, and Choir of the Year. Their “You’re All I Need” collaboration with Hezekiah Walker also earned them notice in the Music Video of the Year category.

Crooner Jason Nelson broke out of his musical shell on his first album in three years “Close” (Jaelyn Song / Tyscot / FairTrade). Aside from playing bass on various tracks, Nelson also showcased more up-tempo songs with a variety of musical colors. His slick, uptown groove “Residue” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart this past November. It’s now in contention for statuettes in the categories of Urban Inspirational Song of the Year and Praise & Worship Song of the Year.

Bri Babineaux ( who recently gave birth to a son named Eli with her husband, Keeslon) won two nominations in the categories of Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year and Contemporary Female Artist of the Year. The nods came because of her best-selling album “The Encounter Continues” (Bri Babineaux Music / Tyscot) that featured her first Billboard Gospel Airplay No. 1 hit, “He’s My Rock,” which has racked up over 3 million global streams.

Finally, Deitrick Haddon teamed up with producer Zaytoven for “Sick World” (Black Own Black Entertainment / DH Visions / Tyscot) which revolved around the COVID-19 pandemic. The Trap music track is nominated in the Rap/Hip Hop Song of the Year category.

PIA London – the UK’s largest Christian annual spoken word event is back after a 2 year break. Exceptionally gifted poets Ezekiel Azonwu and Chris Webb return to London and are joined by new faces but no less talented Jasmine Sims and Jazer Willis. The UK’s Dai Woolridge along with top poets from the Bible Society sponsored #PoeticChallenge are set to showcase at the event and there will be a special Beauty Workshop by Kiyanna Azonwu. All of this will take place at PIA London Summit on Saturday 7th May 2022 at Dominion Centre in London.

The UK has a vibrant and spirited spoken word scene filled with rising talents; this is a real moment for the scene with artists coming together to encourage and learn from one another like never before. With over 1000 tickets sold so far PIA London Summit is already the biggest ever Christian based poetry event and certainly one of the best attended in the UK poetry scene. This May, the poets aim to deliver another round of scintillating words, rhyming couplets, strategic sentence structures and theatrics on several important themes in the faith.

Exciting times once again as the organisers are searching for UK and Europe’s best poet to open the PIA London Summit in what is now dubbed the #PoeticChallenge and sponsored by Bible Society. The previous winner Paul Syrstad claimed it the ‘highlight of my year’. There were 30 submissions from which 8 were shortlisted by Judges and public votes. The winner gets to perform live to open the show on 7th May. With the highly anticipated PIA Workshops, meet and greets, and powerful performances from the poets, the UK is in for a treat and then some.

A song for the 245 million people who struggle with anxiety daily

Richmond, VA: On Thursday, 4/28/22, Orlando Palmer, known best by his artist name iAmSon, released Always With Me (Song for Anxiety), the first single from his highly anticipated album, Room Sessions. Always With Me (Song for Anxiety) was created while iAmSon actively struggled with his own mental health. “I can make it through the day” is the first line, which encompasses his intent behind the music. This Gospel song is not just intended for the church, but for the 245 million people who struggle with anxiety daily.

iAmSon’s music is heavily influenced from his roots in the black church with Gospel as his foundation, along with notes of Classical and Jazz. The legendary R&B group, The Whispers, known for classic dance cuts such as “Rock Steady” and “And the Beat Goes On,” are back in the news with two upbeat club remixes that will keep their fans dancing. As the group grooves towards its 60^th anniversary next year, GRAMMY® Award winning Chicago Club DJ, Maurice Joshua (who has remixed tracks by the likes of Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, and Mariah Carey), has remixed “Praise His Holy Name” – a track from the group’s 2009 urban inspirational album, “Thankful” (Kingdom Records), with brilliant results.

The feel-good track about divine blessings was written by the Whispers and their longtime music producer, Magic Mendez. The Steppers remix is smooth with swag, and true to the Steppin’ style of dance that harks back to the 1970s when Chicago DJ Sam Chatman coined the term. “I had a friend of mine [Johnny Draper] who used to come to my events, and he would dance with his girlfriend,” Chatman told Chicago’s ABC TV affiliate in 2020. “They would break away from each other and he would sort of walk back towards her and it looked like he was stepping. I would say, `Step on Draper, step on.’ I kept on saying the words `Step on’ and it stuck.”

The other new remix is a fiery House Remix. The mid-tempo rhythm segues into an aggressive beat with punchy organ swells as Scotty solos and scats on top of Walter and Leaveil’s smooth harmonies. “Doing the Whispers remix was very exciting for myself,” says Maurice Joshua. “I grew up spinning the Whispers and playing their music as a DJ throughout the decades. Just to hear the stems and their slick vocal harmonies was wonderous. It was a wonderful and joyous feeling just to be part of their legacy and having touched such a great record… It was so inspiring.”

When originally released, the Thankful album peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums sales chart and spent 45 weeks on the survey. Aside from their many R&B chart hits, they are no strangers to Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. On it, they’ve scored several Top Ten hits such as “In the Raw,” “Up on Soul Train” and “Rock Steady.” The former quintet is now a trio of twins Wallace (aka Scotty) and Walter Scott, and Leaveil Degree. In 2000, Marcus Hutson passed of prostate cancer, and in 2016, Nicholas Caldwell died of congestive heart failure.

An accomplished guitar player and writing on all eleven songs, DOE also co-produced on some of the album, in collaboration with her brothers Judah Jones and Dewitt Jones, Darryl Howell, and Jonathan McReynolds.

DOE says of the title track “Clarity” and the album’s theme, “In listening to that song, Clarity is the point where I am in my life. I feel like I’m coming to a beautiful understanding of who I am and what my role is as a child of God.” She advocates to listeners to embrace just being themselves, saying, “The more of themselves that they’re willing to accept and not reject because it’s different from what others think, the more powerful their partnership with God and faith. That’s the freedom I want listeners to walk away with on this album.”
