It was always an idea of my brother (Bernard Belle) that we should do one together, and now it’s complete. “I Will Bless Your Name” is from one of the most popular verses of the scripture, Psalms 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth”. I wrote this song on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 22, having had a reflection on how God has remained faithful, true, kind, good, merciful and gracious through the years!

Considering everything that had happened since the outburst of Covid, it’s so easy to question who God is, his goodness, greatness and power to save and deliver. We are so quick to forget everything he has done, but, if we truly take a step back, as the scripture says in Psalms 103:2, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits”, we will see that God has been nothing but good, better than good even!

“I Will Bless The Lord” is a song of thanksgiving and a reminder to the world that no matter what we are going through, no matter how hard the situation is, to never let anything steal your praise!! I hope this song reminds everyone of how important it is to always bless God. He is indeed worthy of all our praise.

Driven by the abiding belief that voting rights are one of today’s pressing social justice issues, McBride and Common Hymnal, jumped into the writing room to craft this compelling new song.
